California-Nevada Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) is pleased to introduce online training, testing, and field evaluations to progress line clearance trainees through comprehensive step levels to Journeyman.

The JATC, in cooperation with the IBEW and Line Clearance Tree Contractors come together to prepare safe, effective, high quality, and well-trained professionals to serve in our high risk and critical industry.

CDL Reimbursement

Who is eligible for the CDL training reimbursement?

If you are currently enrolled in the California-Nevada JATC LCTT Certificate Program and obtain prior approval, you may be eligible!

Not enrolled in the Cal-Nev JATC LCTT program? ENROLL NOW. To find out about enrollment, contact your area instructor. To locate your area instructor, click here.

Enrollment for the Cal-Nev JATC LCTT Certificate Program is open to the following (Classifications under Tree Training Agreements):

  • Groundman with 6 months experience
  • Trimmer Trainees (Start-12 months)
  • Journeymen Tree Trimmer
  • Foreperson (without CDL)

You may not be eligible if you are:

  • Unemployed or not working under the 47, 465 or 1245 California Tree Trimming Agreements
  • Non-union
  • Management
  • Safety Supervisors

You must Provide:

  • Copy of current DOT Physical
  • Copy of CA CDL Permit
  • SIS Number

Incomplete and/or incorrect applications for the CDL training reimbursement will not be accepted. You will be notified if your application was rejected and the reason for the rejection.

If your application is received and accepted, you will receive a confirmation email along with the next steps required towards receiving the CDL training reimbursement.

  1. Must be working for a Line Clearance Contractor as a Groundman for 6 months, Trimmer Trainee, Journeyman, or Foreperson (without CDL).
  2. Enroll in the Cal-Nev JATC LCTT Program (if not already enrolled).
  3. Obtain your CDL Permit and DOT Physical.
  4. Submit your application to the Cal-Nev JATC for reimbursement along with a copy of your CDL permit and DOT physical (see section How to apply for the CDL training reimbursement for detailed instructions).
  5. You will receive an email from the Cal-Nev JATC confirming whether your application has been accepted or not. If accepted, you will receive a unique identifying number and a 1099 form to be completed and returned (for tax purposes).
  6. You must choose a DMV Approved Commercial Driving School and complete the training successfully.
  7. After completing the training, you must obtain your CDL from the CA DMV.
  8. Provide the required documentation: Receipt from the Driving School for training, copy of your current CDL and completed 1099 form.
  9. You will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your documents. If your documents are incomplete or incorrect, you may receive an email requesting additional information.
  10. Your reimbursement will be processed.
